چکیده

INTRODUCTION Electrophoretic techniques by which mixtures of isoenzymes, and homologous proteins generally, may be resolved have become valuable tools in developmental biology. They make possible the study of development at the molecular level, in the sense that the differentiation of protein patterns underlies ontogenetic changes and tissue differences. The greater successes of this approach have been achieved, of course, in the fields of haemoglobin variation and of tissuespecific isoenzymes of lactic dehydrogenase (see Ingram, 1961; Markert & Ursprung, 1962). The work reported here concerns proteins characterized by their ability to catalyse the hydrolysis of esters. Their substrates range from carboxylic to aromatic esters, and there is a corresponding variety of esterases. It is usual, however, to find that each is effective, though to a different extent, on more than one form of esters. The overlap makes it legitimate, and in fact necessary, to study esterases as a group, although phosphatases are usually dealt with separately. The esterases of the mouse serum have been the subject of several studies in the past, but the need remained for an investigation combining improved electrophoretic resolution with a comparison of ontogenetic stages.

Genetic control of erythrocytic esterase forms in Mus musculus.

TARCH or agar gel electrophoresis coupled with azo dye staining methods has permitted the detection of genetically determined variants of several forms of nonspecific carboxylic esterases in a protozoan (ALLEN 1961), maize ( SCHWARTZ 1960, 1964), Drosophila (WRIGHT 1963; WRIGHT and MACINTYRE 1963), and house flies (VELTHUIS and VAN ASPEREN 1963). In mammals, inherited electrophoretic variants o...

Erythrocyte esterase forms controlled by multiple alleles in the deer mouse.

TUDIES on the inheritance of nonspecific esterase forms of the house mouse (Mus musculus) have recently been reported from the serum (POPP and POPP 1962; PETRAS 1963), kidney ( RUDDLE and RODERICK 1965), and erythrocytes (PELZER 1965). A brief report (SHAW 1964) indicated inheritable esterase differences in kidney homogenates of the deer mouse, Peromyscus maniculatus, and two rare genetically d...

Evaluation of effectiveness of some mitochondrial genes in biosystematics and phylogeographic studies of house mouse (Mus musculus ) subspecies

The identification of the efficiency of some mtDNA genes of Mus musculus species complex (house mouse) for biosystematics research was studied in this approach. Recent studies have made use of different mitochondrial genes including NADH dehydrogenase genes, cytochrome b gene, cytochrome oxidase genes, D-loop region and whole mtDNA genome to study the house mouse species. Usage of each of these...

Diversity and Complexity of the Mouse Saa1 and Saa2 genes

Mouse strains show polymorphisms in the amino acid sequences of serum amyloid A 1 (SAA1) and serum amyloid A 2 (SAA2). Major laboratory mouse strains are classified based on the sequence as carrying the A haplotype (e.g., BALB/c) or B haplotype (e.g., SJL/J) of the Saa1 and Saa2 gene unit. We attempted to elucidate the diversity of the mouse Saa1 and Saa2 family genes at the nucleotide sequence...
